Thetford Policing

The town falls within the Thetford Policing Neighbourhood of Norfolk Constabulary. This neighbourhood also includes a number of nearby villages, including Croxton, Brettenham, Kilverstone, Mundford, Weeting, Foulden, Oxborough and Cockley Cley.

Since 2017, Thetford Police Station is no longer open to the public. However, a weekly "Engagement Surgery" is held there every Tuesday between 12 noon and 2pm, where members of the public can come along to get advice or discuss concerns.

Police priorities are set on a county-wide basis by the directly elected Norfolk Police & Crime Commissioner. Local priorities are set by the Safer Thetford Action Group (STAG) — a partnership involving the police, councils and local residents. The Safer Thetford Action Group holds monthly closed meetings to discuss operational specifics, and also public open meetings once every three months to discuss general concerns and set priorities.

The police have access to the network of CCTV cameras in the town, and enforce the Public Spaces Protection Order that covers the town centre.
