Thetford Town Delivery Plan
In October 2019, Breckland District Council agreed to allocate up to £392,000 to commission "Town Plans" for the five market towns in the district (Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford, and Watton). Of this total, £196,000 is being sought from Norfolk County Council's Business Rates Pool.
Under the "Future Breckland: Thriving People & Places" banner, the new Town Plans will bring together and update existing reports and plans for each town, and will examine a number of areas, including:
- Affordable Housing
- Community Cohesion
- Economic Growth
- Education and Employment Skills
- Environment
- Health Services
- Leisure and recreation facilities supporting a healthy lifestyle
- Local well paid job opportunities
- Planning and delivering the infrastructure to support future growth
- Public Safety
- Quality of the public realm, including in town centres
- Social Care
- Sustainability of market towns
- Transport and highways
One of the five towns in the district will be selected as a pilot project, with the plan initially expected to be completed in 2020. The other four will then follow.
Work on Thetford's Plan started early in 2022, with an online survey and a series of public engagment events announced:
- An Online Survey (now closed)
- Wednesday 2nd February, 18:00-19:30 — Online 'Your Priorities' workshop.
- Saturday 5th February, 11:00-13:00 — in person 'Your Priorities' drop-in session at Thetford Market Place.
- Thursday 17th March, 18:00-19:30 — project shortlisting workshop
A draft Delivery Plan for Thetford was published on 4th July 2022, and will be open for consultation for six weeks.
