River Thet & Little Ouse Waterspace Enhancements
Discussions around making more out of the rivers that run through Thetford, were started in 2014 led by Cllr Stuart Wright and Thetford Town Council. Various partner organisations were involved, and discussed a desire to re-opening the Little Ouse to navigation between Thetford Brandon, and also other improvements to allow residents and visitors to make more of the rivers. To examine ways forward, a Waterspace Study was commissioned jointly by Thetford Town Council and Breckland District Council.
The Waterspace Study was completed by Richard Glenn Associates in September 2016. It proposes a gradual three-phase approach. Initial work should concentrate on enhancement of the riverside core in the town itself, then access should be improved to the river corridor, and finally work should be done to re-establish full navigation on the river.
